Presentation: The Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning (EDP) initiated a land use update at the request of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services (DHS) in support of the development of the Suffolk County Sub-Watersheds Wastewater Plan – Suffolk County Management Program for the Reduction of Nitrogen Loading from Wastewater Sources (SWP). EDP was asked to analyze “land use”, “land available for development” and residential “buildout” for all of Suffolk County. This includes the analysis of all ten towns, and thirty three villages in the County. The number of separate parcels investigated totaled well over a half-million parcels. This support initiative for the DHS SWP was conducted in two phases: Existing Land Use Inventory/Land available for Development and Residential Buildout.
