The APA LI Section invites you to the Downtown Valley Stream Walking Tour

Participants will be taken on a group tour of downtown Valley Stream in the vicinity of the LIRR Valley Stream Station.  Downtown Valley Stream in southwest Nassau County has a great history of being a main street with “mom and pop” businesses. Today, the downtown is mostly one or two story buildings comprised of service oriented businesses with some retail and restaurant uses.  Several new multiple-family residential projects have been approved and constructed in the past few years with many additional projects in the pipeline.  The Village has also taken steps to revitalize the downtown by moving Village Court to a vacant building along Rockaway Avenue in the heart of the downtown.  Ultimately, the Village seeks to capitalize on its proximity and accessibility to JFK Airport and south shore beaches.

Meet in front of Henry Waldinger Memorial Library
60 Verona Place, Valley Stream, NY 11580

1) Meeting at the Valley Stream Village Green in front of Library (use library address for directions) Henry Waldinger Memorial Library, 60 Verona Place, Valley Stream, NY 11580

Introductions and beginning of walking tour – 10 minutes – David & Mayor Fare
Walk to LIRR station – 5 minutes

2) Valley Stream LIRR Station (arrive between 4:15pm – 4:20pm)

Discuss Valley Stream Infill Redevelopment Study – as we walk – Sean Sallie
Discuss development potential around LIRR station
Walk to Sun Valley Tower via Sunrise Highway – 6 minutes
Discuss traffic calming on Sunrise Highway

3) Sun Valley Tower (arrive between 4:30pm – 4:35pm)
Pause to discuss development specs and design issues – Vincent Ang and Mayor Fare – 10 minutes
Discuss developer interest in Sun Valley 2 immediately south of Sun Valley Towers
Discuss office development on Rockaway south of Sunrise Highway

Walk north on Rockaway Avenue to E. Hawthorne Ave, East on E. Hawthorne to Hawthorne Court – 7 minutes – Vincent Ang and Mayor Fare giving specs on Hawthorne Court as we walk

4) Hawthorne Court (arrive between 4:50pm – 4:55pm)
Update on occupancy and top reasons why people are moving here – Patrick Trimboli – Assistant Property Manager / Leasing Coordinator – 10 minutes
Walk west on Jamaica Ave back to Rockaway Avenue – 5 minutes
Discuss Village Court building as we are walking – Mayor Fare

5) Downtown Tour (between 5:15pm and 5:30pm)
Walk north on Rockaway Avenue to PJ Harpers (Bar) – 5 minutes

6) Arrive at PJ Harpers (between 5:30pm and 5:45pm)
**From PJ Harpers it is an 11 minute walk back to Village Green / Library – head south on Rockaway Avenue and west on W. Valley Stream Blvd to get back to the Village Green / Library**
